01Profile

Trained to measure the ground. Working to make it computable.

I'm Oladimeji — DMX to most people — a surveying and geoinformatics professional based in Lagos. My work started in the field: instruments on tripods, traverses, boundary beacons and land-title surveys, including time in the Office of the State Surveyor General, Lagos State.

The field taught me that every map is only as good as the coordinates beneath it. That is why my GIS work — network analysis, suitability modelling, street-guide mapping, geospatial reporting — begins with the reference system and the checks, not the colours.

More and more, the next step is software: Python that produces client reports, automated QGIS symbology, and web tools built with TypeScript and Next.js. Survey knowledge, GIS analysis and programming in one practice.

Method · accuracy first

  1. Control first

Decide the datum and projection before measuring anything. Degrees are not metres.

  2. Check against the ground

Layers are verified against each other and against what was observed in the field before they are styled.

  3. Automate the repeatable

If a map has to be made twice, the second time is a script.

02Field → Solution

One chain, from a tripod to a tool.

Most of my work moves along the same line. Each step depends on the one before it being right.

  1. Measure it properly.

    • Field observations

GIS-Based Emergency Response Route Optimization

Fire Service — Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, Lagos

Problem

When a fire is reported, which road path gets the appliance from the station to the incident fastest?

Data
  • Road network
  • Fire station point layer
  • Fire incident point layer
Method

Built the fire-station and fire-incident point layers, then ran shortest-path network analysis with QGIS's native:shortestpathpointtolayer. GeoPackage became the project's storage format, a pattern carried into all later GIS work.

Technology
  • QGIS
  • GeoPackage
  • QGIS Processing
  • Shortest-path analysis
Result

Shortest-path routes from the station to the incident locations, stored in GeoPackage.

Multi-LGA Street Guide Mapping

Agege · Alimosho · Ikorodu · Oshodi-Isolo · Shomolu

Problem

Five local government areas needed consistent street guides — roads, boundaries and bus stops that line up.

Data
  • OpenStreetMap roads
  • Administrative boundaries
  • Bus stops
Method

Built boundary layers per LGA and derived classified road networks (major / primary / secondary / footpath) from OSM, leaving the source layers untouched, plus bus-stop master layers where required. Each QGIS project stayed CRS-consistent (EPSG:4326 / EPSG:32631) and restricted to its administrative boundary. Uncertain locations were flagged rather than guessed: accuracy over point count.

Technology
  • QGIS
  • OpenStreetMap
  • EPSG:4326
  • EPSG:32631 / UTM 31N
Result

Street Guide datasets for five Lagos LGAs, delivered under contract through O3NEX.

Ikorodu Supermarket Site-Suitability Study

Ikorodu, Lagos

Problem

Where should a new supermarket go, given the competition already on the ground?

Data
  • Five candidate sites
  • Competing supermarket locations
Method

Scored five candidate sites on a composite suitability index that included competitive spacing, then ranked them.

Technology
  • QGIS
  • Python
  • ReportLab
Result

Five candidate sites ranked by composite score, delivered as a client-ready PDF generated with Python / ReportLab.

Technology
  • QGIS
  • WFS

Data
  • Zone boundaries
  • Multiple thematic datasets
Method

Technology
  • QGIS
  • Programmatic symbology transfer

Ikeja Supermarket Point-Layer & Geocoding

Ikeja, Lagos

Problem

A list of supermarkets is not a map. It needed to become one.

Data
  • 57 supermarket locations
Method

Geocoded the locations and built a point layer in UTM Zone 31N.

Technology
  • QGIS
  • Geocoding
  • EPSG:32631
Result

A 57-feature supermarket point layer in EPSG:32631, ready for analysis.

06Workstation

The desk where field data becomes a decision.

A working model of the environment I spend my days in — layers, control points, contours, a network route and live coordinates in UTM 31N. Drag to pan, select features to identify them.

All geometry above is invented for demonstration and does not represent real survey data. The viewport is provider-agnostic: the same layers can be handed to Leaflet, OpenLayers, Mapbox or Cesium.

07Software

From using tools to building them.

Surveying, GIS, spatial data, programming and web technology — the same problems, now solved in code that can be rerun, shared and shipped.
